Regular price $150.00 Save $-150.00

Black Forest folk art, oftentimes being mistakenly believed to have originated in Germany, actually began in the Swiss village of Brienz in the early 1800s. By the end of that century, the craftsmen who created these pieces had become world-renowned artists. Their pieces became symbols of luxury and wealth for the European elite and for world travelers of the time. To this day, Black Forest carvings are highly prized and sought after, adding a bit of old-world-hunting-lodge aesthetic to homes around the world.

This Black Forest piece is a folding and expandable book rack featuring two black bears—one on each side and acting as the book ends.

While the date is not known with certainty, it is likely that the book rack was carved at the beginning of the 20th century, perhaps the end of the 19th century.

Book rack measures 11.5" wide x 4.5" tall x 5" deep but expands to a maximum width of 18" and folds flat-ish 11.5 x 2" x 5". It is in incredible condition.
