Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a French writer, poet, aristocrat, and journalist best known as the author of the novella (Le Petit Prince). He was also a pioneer in aviation, having earned his pilot wings with the 37th Fighter Regiment posted in Casablanca Morocco. He later joined the Aéropostale, flying routes over and between North Africa and South America. He joined the Free French Air-forces in North Africa during World War Two, and disappeared while flying reconnaissance over the Mediterranean on July 31st, 1944.
Airman's Odyssey is a trilogy comprising Saint-Exupéry's best writing on flight:
- Wind, Sand, and Stars, which won the 1939 Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française and the 1939 U.S. National Book Award for Nonfiction. It was also voted the No. 3 novel in National Geographic Adventure's 100 best adventure-exploration books and the No. 1 novel in Outside Magazines 25 adventure-explorer book list.
- Night Flight, which won the 1931 Femina Prize.
- Flight to Arras.
This First Compilation Edition was released by publisher Reynal & Hitchcock, Inc. and copyrighted 1939 by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and 1932,1942 by Renal & Hitchcock, Inc.. It is in excellent condition, with a tight binding and unmarked pages except for two former owners' name plates on the front boards. The dust jacket is in equally excellent condition and has been re-covered with a mylar protective jacket.
