David John Moore Cornwell—better known by his nom de guerre John Le Carré—is a former intelligence officer for Great Britain. He began his career as an author in 1961 while secretly working for MI6 under the cover of Second Secretary of the British Embassy at Bonn, Germany. He assumed the pseudonym due to the fact that Britain's Foreign Intelligence Service forbade officers to publish using their real names.

Upon its release in 1963, Le Carré's masterpiece The Spy Who Came in from the Cold instantly established itself as the gold standard for the espionage novel. The novel drips with a tone and mood that could only have been created by someone with Le Carré's Cold War experience, and the novel provides a more realistic window into the world of Cold War spy craft than other sensationalized stories released during that era or even since.

This early copy, released as a Book Club Edition by publisher Coward-McCann, Inc. New York and copyrighted 1963 by Victor Gollancz Limited, is in excellent condition, with a tight binding and unmarked pages. The dust jacket is in decent shape with a few cracks and small tears, but has been re-covered with a mylar protective jacket, so its good to go from now on.

BE AWARE: Small Vintage items will add an additional $7.50 in shipping to any order.
